I installed this just recently, so the jury is still out on how stable this will be. But it does automatically assign the object a print output setting of an 8.5x11 page.
My only frustration so far is the page size of the scan - it doesn't automatically recognize a letter-sized page, and thus I have to manually adjust the cropping and image size to get it right. The HP software however, allows me to set up special scanning settings that will open the scanned image in whatever format in whatever application (I even have the option of skipping scan preview.), which makes this an attractive set-up. The scanner unfortunately, is not recognized by the system at all, so I can't import directly from an application. That's when I deleted the HP software and downloaded the old HP drivers, and was surprised to notice that the printing occurred a lot faster and without a connection problem. After working in this set-up for a few months, one day, the printer just froze - stopped communicating with the computer and all attempts to scan or print ended up in me force-quitting applications. I also downloaded the recommended HP software for my printer, to manage it better. The computer did recognize the scanner and made it available to other applications, but again the same connection problem persisted. This feature also made it very frustrating to print double sided ( you can do this in PDF documents by printing odd pages only, and then turn over the stack of paper and print even pages only).ģ. In the middle of printing, my printer decided to print some random characters, breaking apart pages and messing up at least a page in the whole print job.
